The Upper School seeks an experienced Dean of Studies

Upper School Dean of Studies

The academic dean reports to the head of the upper school. In collaboration with the division head, the dean is responsible for ensuring that the academic program and activities are congruent with the school’s mission statement and facilitating dialogue that deals with both routine school matters and innovations to improve and move the program forward.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Manage the daily operation of the division’s academic day-to-day operation: managing grade-level test calendar; scheduling of students; scheduling exams and standardized testing; monitoring student academic progress; designing interventions to address student academic emergencies.
  • Observe and help evaluate the faculty in the development and implementation of curriculum; help supervise the teaching process and help review and evaluate academic programs.
  • Serve as a member of the US Support Team and Curriculum Committee and make suggestions for improvements to school policies, systems, and procedures.
  • Provide for the academic guidance of students; maintain complete academic records on all students; oversee the grading and the reporting of standards and methods used by teachers in measuring student achievement.
  • Prepare a master schedule and assign teachers and students to classes and other obligations.
  • Serve as a consultant to teachers in matters of classroom management, teaching methods, and general school procedures.
  • Assist in the admission process for the testing, interviewing, and evaluating of applicants for enrollment.
  • Assist with the coordination of the co-curricular and extra-curricular activity programs of the school; assist in the planning and the presentation of school assemblies and programs; assist in maintaining a comprehensive calendar of school events; keep constituents within the community apprised of various school programs and activities.
  • Help establish programs for the orientation of new teachers, for in-service training of all teachers, and for the evaluation of all classroom teachers, to ensure that teachers are familiar with and adhere to school policies.
  • Teach a class.
  • Synthesize information about standardized test scores and review results and trends with faculty and administration. Examine in relation to Sacred Heart grade distribution and use information to suggest modifications to US program, instruction, assessment, test prep, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the division head or head of school.

Qualifications:
Master Degree
Minimum of 7 years Upper School teaching/administration experience
Strong peer leadership and communication skills
Familiarity with school administration systems, procedures, and practices
