Sacred Heart seeks Lower School Dean, beginning late August 2018

Sacred Heart seeks an experienced candidate who has strong academic, administrative, and interpersonal skills. The Lower School Dean works with the Head of Lower School to ensure that the Goals and Criteria of the Convent of the Sacred Heart are implemented for the education of the whole child.

Required:

  • An understanding of the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart as well as the ability to articulate them
  • Five or more years of teaching experience and/or administrative experience
  • Knowledge of Early Childhood and Elementary Education
  • Experience teaching several different elementary grade levels
  • A demonstrated interest in promoting the success of students
  • Ability to work collaboratively
  • Strong technology skills
  • Effective writing and editing skills
  • Ability to demonstrate inquiry-based pedagogy
  • A demonstrated interest and/or previous experience in implementing a program of differentiated instruction in the classroom

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Administrative:

  • Support the Head of Lower School in implementing administrative decisions
  • Collaborate with the Head of Lower School and Lower School Administrative Team in setting/reviewing Lower School policies
  • Update Lower School documents, including forms, planners, report cards, class pages, and calendars by researching and implementing the most up-to-date technology
  • Assist the Head of Lower School with overseeing the process of developing curriculum blurbs for progress reports and writing, reading and editing progress reports
  • Work with the Head of Lower School and Assistant Head of Lower School to create a schedule that is reflective of curricular priorities and meets the developmental needs of the Lower School students
  • Help to plan Lower School events, including Parent-Teacher Conferences, Curriculum Nights, Field Day, Kindergarten Introduction to Food Service, Grandparents’ Day, Communion, Prize Day, Field Trips, and Special Student and Teacher Events
  • Support teachers with supply ordering
  • Create daily notices for parents to be displayed at arrival and dismissal

Academic:

  • Review differentiation techniques being used in the classroom and develop new methods for challenging and supporting students in the classroom
  • Help to create maps and benchmarks for each grade level and review these each semester
  • Collaborate with the Head of Lower School and Assistant Head of Lower School in collecting and analyzing data to determine how results of standardized testing and other assessments can support in improving curriculum and assessing each student’s individual strengths and goals
  • Research speakers, training programs, and academic programs in order to keep up-to-date on the most current studies in regards to curriculum and best practices, and then confer with the Head of Lower School
  • Cover academic classes as needed and support students who miss a significant number of academic classes due to an illness
