Middle School Psychologist – Leave Replacement
November 5, 2018 - February 1, 2019
The Middle School Psychologist works together with the Middle School Administrative Team, and is responsible to ensure that the Goals and Criteria of Convent of the Sacred Heart are implemented for the education of the whole child focusing on the social and emotional life of middle school students. The Middle School Psychologist is a key administrative role that assists in creating an atmosphere of emotional wellness among the Middle School students. The Middle School Psychologist reports directly to the Head of Middle School. Required: An understanding of the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart as well as the ability to articulate them to parents, students, teachers and other groups.
- Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Oversee the Wellness Program and curriculum in the middle school
Develop a social/emotional curriculum for middle school
Implement social/emotional curriculum with homeroom teachers
Maintain a current and accurate referral database of mental health service providers
Facilitate student peer support groups on divorce, grief and loss, etc. when necessary
Meet with psychologists from all divisions on a regular basis
Observe students in classrooms, assess if students are at risk, assess if students need intervention, make recommendations for supports, make outside counseling when appropriate
Provide crisis intervention with students and families
Coordinate and follow up with outside therapists and services for students and families; maintain confidential student notes/records
Educate and meet with teachers to raise awareness and support for the emotional needs of students
Meet with parents and participate in parent conferences, as needed
Participate in grade level meetings
Meet regularly with Middle School Support Team (Learning Specialist, Deans and Head of Middle School) to discuss issues concerning students and to review case studies, the status of students receiving tutoring, referrals for psycho-educational screenings and evaluations, etc.
- Other Responsibilities
Assist with Homeroom duties
Monitor lunch duty when needed
Chaperone school events
Attend lectures or professional development opportunities as directed by the Head of Middle School
- Requirements:
Skills in crisis management, solution-focused, problem-solving, short-term counseling techniques Psychology PhD Preferred: Previous experience in Independent School Experience teaching at the Middle School Level Experience in private psychotherapy practice
