Position: Varsity Head Track and Field Coach (winter, spring seasons)

Reports to: Assistant Athletic Director - Competitive Sports

Expected Start: January 2018

Summary:

The Head Coach is responsible for all aspects of running a successful Varsity program, as well as overseeing the growth, development, and leadership of the Convent of the Sacred Heart track programs, grades 5-12.
This is a part-time position with Indoor Track competing until February/ March with Outdoor Track running from March - June". Interested applicants should be available Monday - Friday between 3 - 6pm

Responsibilities:

  • Achieve a high level of competency in sport skill instruction, motivation, and conduct of practice sessions
  • Achieve competitive results that demonstrate athletic excellence
  • Demonstrate a sincere interest in the social, emotional, academic, moral-ethical, and athletic development of student-athletes; demonstrate the highest priority is the health, safety and welfare of student-athletes
  • Demonstrate excellent writing, speaking and listening skills
  • Exhibit leadership and professional behavior in dealings with student-athletes, parents, staff, and administrators
  • Exhibit supportive and cooperative behavior in the pursuit of achieving sport program goals established by the Assistant Athletic Director – Competitive Sports
  • Complete all assignments made by the Assistant Athletic Director – Competitive Sports including, but not limited to:
    • roster management, track meet operations, scheduling, record keeping, transportation, management of staff, CPR, First Aid, VIRTUS and other trainings, liaison for Team Parents (APC), distribution and collection of uniforms, attend League / CSH coaches’ meetings, and other administrative duties as assigned
  • Conduct staff meetings with Sacred Heart coaches to develop consistent coaching philosophy, teach concepts, and promote excitement towards CSH track and field programs.
  • Manage staff assistant coaches; Provide mentorship / support to sub-Varsity programs
  • Exhibit the highest professional standards and ethical behavior with adherence to NYSAIS, AAIS, School, Division, and Department of Athletics rules and regulations and Coaches Manual

Other Responsibilities: This position is also responsible for any additional tasks, not previously mentioned, that are needed to maintain and/or oversee the success of Sacred Heart Athletics.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and two years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and experience. Previous high school/college coaching experience required. High school competing experience required; college competing experience preferred.
  • Preference for someone with demonstrated experience in planning and developing comprehensive approach to middle school and high school sport program development.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills with the ability to effectively manage relationships at the administrative, student-athlete, and parent level.
