Associate Director of College Counseling

Position: Associate Director of College Counseling
Reports to: Upper School Division Head
FLSA: Exempt, full-time

The Associate Director of College Counseling will join a collaborative office in a fast-paced and supportive environment that consists of a full-time Director, a full-time Associate Director, and a full-time Administrative Assistant. The student population for grades 9-12 is approximately 230 girls, 100% of whom are college-bound. The Associate Director’s caseload is 28-30 students in each grade.

Responsibilities
  • Counsel and advice students and their families on all phases of the college selection and application process, including developing an appropriate list of colleges, providing guidance with the financial aid process, and reviewing all aspects of the application.
  • Discuss the course registration process as well as standardized testing plans, including reviewing results, with students in grades 9-11.
  • Develop and plan college counseling and financial aid programs and workshops for students, parents, and caregivers in grades 9-12.
  • Co-teach college counseling classes for juniors and seniors and develop appropriate curriculum.
  • Compose counselor letters of recommendation for seniors.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with admissions counselors through travel to college campuses and hosting representatives who visit Sacred Heart.
  • Involvement in professional organizations and travel is expected.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of College Counseling and Head of the Upper School.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree strongly preferred.
  • At least five years of experience in the field: experience in college admissions required; college counseling in independent schools preferred; knowledge and background in financial aid is a plus.
  • Superb interpersonal, communication, organizational, public speaking, and writing skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite; familiarity with SCOIR and College Kickstart strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of, appreciation for, and demonstrated commitment to anti-racist and anti-bias education.
  • A clear understanding of the complex nature of college counseling and the college application process.
  • Willingness to acquire new skills.
The Associate Director of College Counseling is a 10-month position from mid-August through mid-June. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
