Salary Range: $45/hour to $60/hour
Convent of the Sacred Heart’s Swim School is looking for passionate swim instructors to work with swimmers aged 3 and up in private, semi-private, and group format. The Swim Instructor will deliver lessons based on the Sacred Heart Swim School curriculum while ensuring a safe, enjoyable experience for the swimmers. This is a part-time position with variable hours on weekday afternoons and weekends.
Job Summary
The swim instructor will be responsible for teaching water safety and swimming skills to students aged 3 years through adulthood. The schedules will vary, but instruction may occur weekdays from 3-5 pm and Saturdays from 9 am-1 pm.
Essential Job Functions
- Create and deliver effective lesson plans for clients, based on their skill level
- Ability to adapt to the age, experience, and ability of participants so they can meet course objectives
- Competent at teaching all levels in the swim program curriculum
- Communicate progress regularly with participants/parents
- Complete records and reports as required
- Participate in regular in-service training sessions
- Ensure all teaching and practice areas are free of hazards and materials/equipment are safe
- Provide for the health and safety of participants
- Recognize and respond effectively in emergencies in accordance with facility emergency action plans
- Enforce aquatic facility policies, rules, and regulations
- Complete additional duties as assigned by the supervisor
Education & Experience
- Working towards a high school diploma, GED, or higher
- Thorough knowledge and application of swimming and water safety or coaching experience preferred
- One-year experience preferred
- CPR-PR/AED/First Aid
- Knowledge/experience with American Red Cross Water Safety curriculums
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
- Ability to swim/teach basic to advanced swimming techniques
- Excellent customer service skills, energetic, enthusiastic, and motivational
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to build relationships with members of all ages
- Comfortable working with all age groups, including very young children
- Ability to demonstrate patience and empathy
- Ability to handle and resolve conflicts in a professional, tactful manner
- Capability to work independently
- Ability to make decisions quickly and easily
- Be flexible with work hours
- Hourly wages from $45/hour to $60/hour, commensurate with experience
