Position: Physical Education & Assistant Swim Teacher, Leave Replacement, One Year
Reports to: Athletics and Wellness Division Head
FLSA: Exempt, full-time
Salary Range: $67,000 - $85,000
Start Date: August 20, 2025

SUMMARY:
The Division of Athletics & Wellness is looking for a leave replacement for a Physical Education (PE) & Assistant Swim Teacher position for the 2025/26 school year (late August 2025 - June 2026). The PE & Assistant Swim Teacher primarily works in the 55,000 ft  Athletics and Wellness Center located at 406 East 91st Street as a part of the school’s Physical Education team. He/she has primary responsibilities of providing safe and age-appropriate instruction of a quality physical education program to serve the Sacred Heart students, both on land, and as an assistant instructor in the water.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Plan and lead land-based physical education classes for PreK-12 students emphasizing safety, enjoyment, and skill development.
  • Support learn-to-swim classes for early education students (PreK–2nd grade) as part of the physical education curriculum.
  • Assess and evaluate student progress in physical education classes.
  • Communicate effectively with students, faculty, and families regarding student progress.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to contribute to innovative curriculum design and ongoing program improvement.
  • ​Maintain good, professional and collaborative relationships with colleagues.
  • Model and promote high standards of sportsmanship, ethics, and personal conduct.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional growth and development.
  • Support the Mission, Goals and Criteria of a Sacred Heart education.
  • Perform other duties as needed to support the success of the division and its programs.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of relevant teaching experience, ideally with students across a range of grade levels.
  • Prior experience working in a K-12 educational setting.
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification or equivalent, or demonstrated experience teaching learn-to-swim classes.
  • Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification.

  • Technologically proficient, with computer literacy and familiarity with Google Suite.
  • Effective classroom management skills that promote engagement, safety, and respect.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A willingness and commitment to advance the goals and mission of Sacred Heart while adhering to the rules, policies, and regulations established by Sacred Heart and the Division of Athletics and Wellness
  • A growth mindset with a passion for teaching, continuous learning, and staying current with best practices in the field.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and to creating a welcoming and affirming environment for all students and colleagues.

DESIRABLE ATTRIBUTES (not required):
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard certification
  • Experience and a willingness to coach after school athletic teams (stipend provided)
